Wakulla County Proposed Home Rule Charter
The Voters of Wakulla County will have an opportunity at the General Election, November 4th, 2008, to vote on whether they prefer for Wakulla County to operate under a Charter County form of government. The Board of County Commissioners approved for a simple charter to be considered by the People. Wakulla County is currently a non-chartered county. Thus, it does not currently have all of the allowable powers of home rule as authorized by the State Constitution via adoption of a Charter. The proposed charter reflects the current Wakulla County government structure as it is today (such as 5 County Commissioners, Elected Sheriff, Tax Collector, Clerk of Court, etc..,) and largely mirrors state law. Please see the links listed below for additional information on Charter Government and what is included in the proposed simple Charter for Wakulla County.
